Novaskill’s story is one of development, re-imagining and new beginnings.
Established as Hunter Group Apprentices and later becoming Hunter Group Training (HGT), our organisation was founded as a result of the severe economic downturn in the Hunter region in the early 1980’s.
Our objective was to ensure young apprentices could continue on with their trade training by being hosted out to local employers so that when the economy improved, they would be able to continue with their trade.
In 2008, HGT was boldly rebranded as Novaskill, a name that has come to embody the progressive and innovative values we hold dearly.

HGT Australia Ltd was established in 1980 and is a respected educational institution across the states of New South Wales and Queensland. HGT Australia International College has its main campus in Newcastle – the second largest city in the most populous state in Australia. As a not for profit entity, Novaskill is governed by a Board of Directors, guided by a Memorandum and Articles of Association. The Board’s membership provides a stable platform that meets monthly to review company operations and performance, ensuring that the Company is achieving its organisational and contractual objectives.
